Hillary Slams Edwards over $400 Haircut

Hillary Clinton did not hold back words when asked about the latest  controversy surrounding the current front runner for the Democratic Party's nomination, John Edwards, at a campaign stop in Bristol, Pennsylvania last night.

"John Edwards' decision to pay $400 for a haircut smacks of liberal elitism.", Clinton told the jubilant crowd, "If John Edwards thinks that the average Pennsylvanian is going to spend $400 in a trendy hair salon, it is pretty clear that he is out of touch with Pennsylvanian voters".

Clinton had made an appearance at a local discount hair salon the day before where she received a haircut and shampoo, and paid $8 for the services. While her hair was being cut by the stylist, Clinton remarked that when she had been a little girl, her grandfather used to cut her hair "for free".

The Clinton campaign is expected to release a new TV ad depicting  angry Pennsylvania voters reacting to the news about John Edwards' pricey salon visits.

Edwards's campaign committee picked up the tab for two haircuts at $400 each by celebrity stylist Joseph Torrenueva of Beverly Hills, Calif., according to a financial report filed with the Federal Election Commission.

FEC records show Edwards also availed himself of $250 in services from a trendy salon and spa in Dubuque, Iowa, and $225 in services from the Pink Sapphire in Manchester, N.H., which is described on its Web site as "a unique boutique for the mind, body and face" that caters mostly to women.

A spokeswoman for Edwards' campaign did not respond to requests for comment.

UPDATE: You guys DO realize that this is snark, right?

Is this supposed to be clever or something?  Maybe you should try cross-posting it over at the EENR blog to see how other Edwards supporters feel about you using JRE as a shiney object to draw attention from your candidate's self inflicted fiasco.

I think that Hillary needs to STOP (2.00 / 1)

putting down fellow Democrats.

She is becoming more and more like Lieberman.

Re: I think that Hillary needs to STOP (1.00 / 1)

Nope - that would be Obama. No one is as much like Lieberman as Obama. That's all Obama does is attack other Democrats and insult the only successful Democratic administration in decades while sucking up to Reagan.

Brilliant parody! (2.00 / 2)

Kudos...

Of course, if it was Kerry, she would be bragging about how she learned how to "surf normal" from her grandpa, and made her own surfboard out of her mom's ironing board, although she can't remember when or where she last surfed.

Re: Brilliant parody! (2.00 / 2)

Exactly.

She'd probably also mention that she'd ACTUALLY been a hero in Vietnam, unlike Kerry.

Re: Hillary Slams Edwards over $400 Haircut (none / 0)

The irony is that Edwards' haircut prices probably would have been an 'issue' that would have rubbed some voters the wrong way.  Enough to make a difference?  Ask Al Gore about Florida.

That aside, it's funny how Obama, himself, is the one who made these very ill-advised remarks, and once again, took a swipe at the Clinton administration in the process.  But hey, blame Clinton for his comments.

So, get off of it.  This guy never misses a chance to denigrate the Clinton administration (and, by association, Senator Clinton).  Yet, that's ok with you so-called Democrats; give Obama free reign to criticize anything Clinton and whine like babies when he's taken to task for his own foolish words.  Ya proud?

Re: Hillary Slams Edwards over $400 Haircut (2.00 / 2)

Oh, yeah, because it's alright to purposefully misinterpret what Obama meant to use it as a cudgel against him, and the Clinton's behavior is certainly justified. MOM! HE STARTED IT!

See you in the fall when we campaign to elect President Obama!

Hooray for John McCain!

Hillary, a Closet Republican (none / 0)

Maybe Hillary does not want Edwards' endorsement.  May be she knows something is comming down the road and so now she is dissing him.  It is a rather odd thing to do, to bring up Edwards when he is not really in the running.  I sometimes think she is a "closet" Republican.  I know she sides more with McCain than she does Obama and she says a lot of nasty things about Dems: Gore, Kerry, Obama, now Edwards which seems unpatriotic to your fellow Dems.  Reports have it that she belongs to a Secret Church/Bible group that has both Dems & Republican members.  This is just another telling side of her complex personality that does not really bode will for the Democratic Pary she is supposed to belong too.

What is the point of this diary? (2.00 / 1)

It's certainly not funny.  Is it an opportunity to slam Edwards?  Why?  If you think that this Obama comment will have no purchase - maybe it won't but what opponent in a primary wouldn't use it?

Dragging Edwards into the fray is grating to this Edwards supporter, not clever.

Re: What is the point of this diary? (2.00 / 1)

It's an attempt to demonstrate to some of the myDD Clinton supporters how ridiculous it was for her to attach the "elitist" and "out of touch" labels to a fellow democrat who is NEITHER.

My methodology was to hypothetically place Edwards in Obama's position and subject him to similar criticism from Clinton and for everyone to observe how clearly ridiculous it sounded.

Edwards, a champion for the everyday american and a person who has spent a large portion of his life fighting for the poor and COMBATTING the "elite" was labelled an "elitist" by the GOP.

Democrats were pissed off, as they should have been.

Now Hillary is doing the exact same thing.

Obama supporters are pissed off, and the THEY SHOULD BE.

It's neither smooth (none / 0)

nor media saavy to bring up Edwards.

You think it's ridiculous - I do not.  I think she should have had a lighter touch and let it go sooner than she did but she'd have been a fool not to highlight it.

I'm a Democrat and I'm not pissed off, nor do I have to shout.

She's looking to the GE where both Gore and Kerry were cast in the role of elites by the Republican - out of touch with everyday Americans (whatever that is - this is a diverse country). She sincerely doesn't think he can win as he will be cast the same way.

However, he does have the advantage of following 7 years of bush - so he's got that going for him.  But don't forget bush was reelected.

Sen. Obama will be criticized - no matter that you think he should not be touched.  This may work to his advantage - let all this stuff come out now because the Republicans will certainly bring it up should he get the nomination.

Is the point of this diary (2.00 / 1)

at this point in time, the repeat of the "elitist" part of the comment?
Yes, the GOP has used this insult effectively against Dems for years now.  It is a word that is dangerous and divisive and is meant to imply arrogance, dishonesty  and contempt for less wealthy voters
Let's use it against Republicans who are by far the worst enemy of financially disadvantaged people of this country.

yeah and he made plenty of snotty (none / 0)

comments about her too.  You have to admit a 400 dollar haircut when you are running as the populist is really really not too smart.

Policy is what matters and in terms of policy Edwards and Clinton are much closer than Edwards and Obama.
