She doesn't care how. She wants the nomination NOW!

Despite not having a path to the nomination that doesn't involve injuring the party, and having no chance in catching Obama in pledged delegates, her insistence that she will still win is indeed very Veruca Salt-like.

I just cooked this little video up myself last night. Hope you get a few laughs out of it.

I'd be very interested to hear a knowledgeable Clinton supporter outline a plausible scenario where Clinton can win and the party as a whole does not lose.

watch her win it .

it would look like magic .

at this point they are both fighting for who is going to be on top of the ticket.

Obama is fighting to keep Clinton from stealing (none / 0)

the nomination if and once, as is likely, he wins the pledged delegate lead. And not to be on a Phantom Ticket with her after all the trashing she has done of him and the negative campaign she ran for quite sometime.

The Clintons are, of course, faking unassuming voters with the Phantom Ticket trap. Hillary Clinton already ruled out a joint ticket when she trashed Obama by:

  1. saying that he isn't "ready on day one" (why would she put him a heart beat away from the Presidency if he isn't "ready on day one"?)
  2. ran her fear-mongering "3AM ad" (if he can't pick up the phone, how can she put him second in the line of succession)
  3. praised McCain while denigrating Obama (if all he brings is a speech in 2002, how then is he qualified to assume the Presidency if necessary?)

If Clinton and Obama are on the same ticket, McCain only needs to one ad of the trashing she did to beat the ticket hands down.

This Phantom Ticket Trap spin in mendacious. It should be called out for what it is.

Re: She doesn't care how. (2.00 / 1)

This is funny. Half of the Democrats want Hillary to be the nominee and yet people like you continue to perpetuate the myth that she is somehow damaging the party. Why don't you tell Obama to drop out the race for a change?

Many states have not even had a chance to vote yet.

And BTW, why don't you tell me a plausible scenario where Obama can win the 2024 delegates needed for nomination?

by PhillyGuy on Mon Mar 10, 2008 at 07:00:00 AM EST

The pledged delegate magic number is 1627 (none / 0)

= 2024 - 795/2

Obama leads PD count by 155: O:1378, C:1223

He needs only 1627-1378 = 249 more to hit 1627 out of the 611 PDs left, i.e. 40% of the remaining PDs.

Clinton needs 1627 - 1223 = 404 out of 611. 60% of the remaining PDs.

Super delegates should not align to deny the nomination to the PD winner.

Re: She doesn't care how. (2.00 / 1)

If Obama was losing and it was impossible for him to catch up in pledged delegates, I would be calling for him to drop out.

However, if that was actually the case he'd have been counted out by the media weeks ago and he'd be long dropped out.

Only Clinton, with her aura of invincibility and tremendous influence in the party could be allowed to keep the illusion of being competitive.

As for the "many states" that have not had a chance to vote yet, only Pensylvania and North Carolina have a significant number of delegates. The pledged delegate race is essentially over.

Oh, and here's your plausible scenario for Obama getting 2024: Obama wins the states he's expected to win, and loses the ones he's expected to lose. Then roughly half of the outstanding superdelegates support Obama while the other half support Clinton.

Boom, he's over 2024.

Seems like none of the candidates have a plausible way to the nomination.

Try the numbers yourself. Split all the remaining states down the middle, and do the same with the super delegates.

Thanks for that link - that was fun. Makes it very clear too.

Any damage to the "party" will be (none / 0)

because of Howard Dean. I hope he's a better doctor than he is a politician because this time next year he's going to need another job.

Re: She doesn't care how. She wants the nomination (2.00 / 1)

This is how Hillary wins without damage to the party:

1. She does well in the remaining primaries and accumulates a popular vote lead;

2. Superdelegates decide to support her based upon her winning the popular vote and being the clear choice of registered Democrats;

3. Obama supporters grow up and decide to support the nominee.

The only way there is "damage to the party" is if Obama supporters try to cause it.  That's on them.  I do not subscribe to the view that a Clinton victory will sap them of free will.

Re: She doesn't care how. She wants the nomination (none / 0)

Pretty simple, re-voting in Michigan and Florida.  That's how she can win delegate count.

Nice line about the numbers coming from the Obama camp.  Appeal to Emotion: except the numbers don't exactly work for Obama either.  Obama's camp gives the impression that the "numbers" are fact based, but in reality they are emotionally based.  On the hope that they get to define the rules of the nomination.  (Pretty sure that number is 2024.)

Re: She doesn't care how. She wants the nomination (none / 0)

Obama's lead in the overall delegate count is larger than it was a week ago.

Re: She doesn't care how. She wants the nomination (none / 0)

Obama doesn't want Florida votes to count - although he was the ONLY candidate to air TV ads there.

Re: She doesn't care how. She wants the nomination (none / 0)

He aired TV ads nationally, not in Florida alone. Which was well within the rules.

Obama needed a national ad campaign due to his low name recognition compared to Clinton.

Obama has never said that he doesn't WANT Florida to count. Rules are rules, and the DNC decided to strip Florida of its delegates.

It's Hillary who wants to break the rules, and she's spinning it with a "we want everyones vote to count!" line. This is disingenuous, since she never argued for this BEFORE being behind Obama and desperately needing their delegates.
